I Quit!
Every morning we wake up with the mindset to create the most fashionable, stunning, or unique piece that every fashionista will consider a must have. We put our blood, sweat and tears into each item that we make. You see, Alycia Mikay is not simply another boutique, it is a brand.
That's right, Alycia Mikay is also fashion line. We have our own internal design studio. We sew and oversee each and every detail that goes into our products. Just like any other artist, we strive for perfection and even the smallest details are sometimes a pain in the you know what. Okay.. most of the time, the details are a pain in the you know what. The item looks amazing. Now, it's time to focus on the small, tiny details to finalize it which is sometimes painstaking. Ugh.
You see, the fun part about creating and designing is seeing the initial vision, then taking that vision to the next step which is the actual creation. We excitedly start creating and we can see our vision take form. Just like all designers, whether they will admit it or not, sometimes we step back and look at our piece of work and think to ourselves "The world ain't ready for us. This is a haute couture, baby!" Then, there are times we step back and look at our piece of work and think, "I don't know about this one. Somehow, our creation is not matching up with the vision that we had." We press on and complete it anyway, quickly realizing that it should never see the light the day. When we realize that our masterpiece at the time of the vision phase turns out to be a hot mess after creating it, is the "I quit" moment. That's when we immediately, pack up, turn off all the machines, throw the garment or item into the scrap bin, turn off the lights in the design studio and stomp out of there while swearing.
You see before creating we have meetings. We swap ideas. We get each other's opinions. For God's sake, we're a diverse group of women. We're different ages, sizes, and shapes. There's no way we can create hideous items! We are brand that caters to women of various ages and sizes. The Alycia Mikay fashion line aims to makes every woman look and feel like the best dressed woman in whatever she's wearing. How can we create stunning pieces one day and then the next day we create not so stunning pieces? I'll tell you how, because we are always pushing the envelope. We want the Alycia Mikay woman to have a classy and sophisticated look with an edge. We want to incorporate trends into our timeless fashion so that our clothing brand is not considered 100% trendy which will be out of style within the next few months. In order to make this happen, we have to push to envelope and try new things. So when we create pieces that are completely and undeniably hot messes, WE QUIT... until tomorrow. 😉😜😃
